This event is open to ALL South Florida core and front-end devs. We also welcome other groups to come join us from WordPress, Drupal.  The more the merrier.

Developers, this is a great way for beginning developers (even students) to learn the ropes, as well as a way for advanced developers to enhance their skills while creating apps and mashups using various APIs or maybe even from scratch without using an API.

At the end of the day, teams and/or individuals get to present their work to a panel of judges and win kickass prizes.

There will also be raffles throughout the day for T-shirts and other items.

As front-end developers we’ve all heard about coffee script. If you’re anything like me you may have some hesitations to giving it a try…I mean it is just another preprocessor to learn, and what’s wrong with plain old javascript?! I say plain old JavaScript is great, but anything that makes life easier for as a developer is phenomenal. Come out and learn why CoffeeScript is so popular. I’ll give you some pointers on how to avoid some pitfalls that almost had me shelf CoffeScript. Most importantly I’ll help ou learn the basics so that you’re able to give it a real chance!

Meet the Creator of Recaptcha

Meet Luis von Ahn, the founder of the company reCAPTCHA, which was sold to Google in 2009. He is an entrepreneur and an associate professor in the Computer Science Department at Carnegie Mellon University. His latest project is Duolingo, an app that offers”free language learning for the world”. Duolingo’s goals are to develop the most scientifically advanced language learning that truly results in people learning a language, and to enable the best possible education completely free via a unique crowdsourced business model.
